What Roster Needs Should We Address After the World Cup?

With the World Cup now well underway, it’s hard not to think about how it will affect our beloved Philadelphia Union. We have a few players in the spotlight, and depending on how they perform, it could really set the tone for our roster when MLS resumes. I’m curious what everyone thinks about our needs moving forward, especially with the transfer window opening shortly after the tournament.

One area that seems to be a hot topic is our midfield. We've seen some flashes of brilliance, but also moments where we struggled to maintain possession against tougher teams. With some of our younger players getting a chance to shine at the World Cup, do we think there’s a need to bring in a more experienced player or maybe even look for a solid academy talent to round out our depth?

Then there’s the question of our defense. If we can’t keep clean sheets, the playoff push will become significantly harder. Do we need to consider bringing in a new center-back? Or perhaps we could look at shifting some players around if they excel in their positions at the World Cup? Making the right adjustments now could be crucial for our playoff chances.

And how about the wing positions? Are we satisfied with our current setup, or do we need fresh legs to bring more offensive firepower? The last thing we want is to be caught flat-footed because our wingers aren’t able to keep up with the pace of the game after the break.

It makes me proud to see them represent us, but I also can’t help but think about how their performances could impact their future with the Union. If they do really well, do we risk losing them to bigger clubs overseas?
